Unless you're already on the Mexican mainland, you'll probably be coming from the USA and especially through California. La Paz is at about 950 miles from San Diego. The road, Interstate 1, you cannot miss it, there is only one, is generally very good. It's a beautiful 2 or 3 day drive on an incredible scenic road with spectacular landscapes.
